Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis says that Italy’s request that his country take in some of 450 Muslim illegal migrants stranded at sea as “a road to hell.” This approach only motivates smugglers and increases their income. Our country won’t take any African Muslim migrants because they don’t want to work and our businesses don’t want to hire them.
SBS (h/t Maurice) Migration is a hot political issue in the Czech Republic, an EU and NATO member of 10.6 million people, where just a handful of Muslim refugees have settled since the migrant crisis of 2015.
Last year, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka frankly stated that he does not want the Muslim community to grow in the Czech Republic, saying he has seen what problems large Muslim populations have caused in other European countries. Noting that there was only a small, non-radicalised Muslim community in the Central European country, the prime minister told Austrian newspaper Die Presse: “When we see problems in other European countries, we do not want Muslims in the Czech Republic.”
Like the other three countries in the Visegrád Group (Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary), the Czech Republic rejects the European Union’s forced migrant relocation program. And this is why we don’t hear of terrorist attacks, soaring crime and sexual assault rates, and more than 90% of migrants living on welfare in these countries.
