BRAZIL’S president elect, Jair Bolsonaro, outrages the Left
By saying that parts of France are uninhabitable because of all the Muslim migrants there
Nicknamed the “Brazilian Trump,” right wing Bolsonaro condemned France for allowing in so many Muslim migrants because ‘they never give up their roots…Muslims want to make their culture prevail.’
Daily Mail Brazil’s president-elect Jair Bolsonaro, who will be sworn in on January 1st, has said parts of France have become ‘unliveable’ because of Muslim migrants, employing rhetoric similar to Donald Trump‘s before he became the US president. Bolsonaro, who takes office on January 1, made the Islamophobic remarks late Tuesday in a live video feed on his Facebook page.
The extreme right-wing politician was elected in October against the Socialist Party candidate with a Muslim name – Haddad – on a hardline anti-crime and anti-corruption platform much like Donald Trump.’
‘Everybody knows what is happening in France. Some parts of France are simply unlivable,’ Bolsonaro said on Facebook. He said that, despite a warm welcome by the French, Muslim migrants have no intention of integrating
‘You know how those people are, right? They have something in them, they don’t give up their (Islamic) roots and they want to make their (Islamic) culture, their acquired rights and their privileges prevail,’ he said. ‘France is suffering because of that. Part of the population, part of the military, some of the institutions are starting to complain about that. We don’t want that for Brazil.’
Although he explicitly did not say whether he was referring to Muslim migrants, it was understood as though those with North African Muslim heritage form the biggest group of migrants in France after Europeans.
France is currently in the grip of ‘yellow vest’ anti-government protests unrelated related to migration. (The Daily Mail knows it is related to Muslim migration, in large part, but refuses to admit
it)
It has been rocked by a number of recent deadly attacks, notably in November 2015 in which 130 people were murdered in Paris by radicalized French Muslim and Belgian Muslim gunmen, and last week in the city of Strasbourg where a French ex-convict killed five people in a rampage claimed by the Islamic State group.
Bolsonaro did not say whether he would impose tighter immigration controls, but did repeat that he will pull Brazil out of a nonbinding global migration pact ratified by the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.
‘Unfortunately, the current Socialist government in Brazil… signed the pact. We are not against migrants, but we must be have very rigorous criteria for those entering Brazil. We are going to denounce and revoke this pact on migration,’ he said.
Before and after his October election Bolsonaro has signaled he wants closer ties with the United States and with Trump. Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton, visited Bolsonaro and said the US anticipated a ‘dynamic partnership’ with the Brazilian leader.
Times of Israel Bolsonaro controversially said in November his intention was to move his country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, joining the US and other Embassies that have moved there.
Brazil’s Conservative Christian president-elect, who is openly pro-Israel, chose a Jewish hospital, Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, to be transferred to when he was seriously injured after being stabbed in the stomach while campaigning. The attacker had been affiliated with PSOL, Brazil’s far-left political party with an openly anti-Israel platform, including a member who burned the Israeli flag in public several years ago.
The fact that Bolsonaro refused treatment at an Arab hospital commonly chosen by the country’s most senior politicians fueled rivalry that made headlines and led to conspiracy theories in social media. “This time the Syrian-Lebanese — known as ‘the hospital of the powerful’ — lost the battle to its rival, the Albert Einstein,” Brazil’s most influential newspaper Folha de S. Paulo reported.
Some among Bolsonaro’s nearly 10 million followers on social media suggested his life would be at risk if moved from the city of Juiz de Fora to receive medical treatment “by the hands of Arab and Muslim doctors,” adding that, at the Jewish institution, the Israel’s Mossad would be able to protect him.
He said he will close the Palestinian embassy in Brasilia and that his first international trip will be to the Jewish state. “Is Palestine a country? Palestine is not a country, so there should be no embassy here. You do not negotiate with terrorists,” he said.
Bolsonaro’s passionate supporters usually refer to him by the nickname “Mito,” from the word myth or legend. Bolsonaro was the top vote-getter among 46 congress members elected from the area in 2014 and won his sixth consecutive term in 24 years. His three sons, also politicians, have been constantly photographed wearing T-shirts with messages in Hebrew.
