Mississippi Governor Signs Permitless Carry Bill

by AWR Hawkins On April 15 Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant (R) signed permitless carry legislation into law. The bill–House Bill 876–expands permitless carry in backpacks and satchels “to include belt and shoulder holsters.” It also allows churches to set forth safety policies that allow certain congregants to concealed carry in church buildings for the protection of themselves and others. The NRA-ILA reports that Bryant’s signature comes “despite months of misleading attacks by New York gun control advocate and billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his anti-gun state groups, Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action.” HB 876 takes effect immediately. Concealed Carry Surging: TX to Surpass 1 Million License Holders

Those are one million people who can carry a handgun concealed or, if they choose, carry it openly under the Open Carry law Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed into law last year. Thousands Sign Petition to Allow Guns at RNC Convention

by AWR Hawkins Thousands of individuals have signed an online petition seeking to nudge Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) into allowing concealed carry firearms into the Republican National Committee Convention in Cleveland. The convention will be held in Quicken Loans Arena, which currently bars guns from the premises. Legislation to Arm Teachers Moving Through Tennessee House

by AWR Hawkins On Wednesday the Tennessee House Civil Justice Subcommittee passed legislation allowing teachers and staff to carry guns at school for self-defense. The legislation–House Bill 1751–is sponsored by representative David Byrd (R-Waynesboro). According to WKRN-TV, HB 1751 is intended to “give school systems in distressed rural counties the ability to allow certain staff and volunteers to carry guns at school and school-sponsored activities, like athletic events.” Byrd said the need for armed teachers is exemplified by his home county–Wayne County–where there are insufficient funds to pay for School Resource Officers.
